Modern Space

“No label likes a lazy band.” That was the advice given to Modern Space lead singer Sean Watson Graham from Arkells’ front-man Max Kerman.

Sean seems to have taken it to heart.

Signed to Warner Music Canada, Modern Space got their big break opening for Arkells on their 2016 cross-country tour. Since then, the Toronto quintet has released the EP “Before Sunrise,” toured across the country, wrote and recorded a new EP, lost some members, and welcomed new ones.

“Our bass player is now the guitar player,” laughs Sean, who describes the new lineup as a bit more rock and roll.

Although the lineup has changed since the upcoming EP was recorded, Sean says the “new” band is still writing and “always coming up with new ideas.”

Sean says the new record is coming out in the “not too distant future,” and is “a more mature record.”

So far two songs off the album have been released: title track “Flip for It,” and “Just Quit.”

But if you catch the band live, you’ll get a preview of many more of the new tracks. The band will be playing lots off the upcoming EP, making this summer’s shows “a really cool chance to get a preview of a lot of songs people haven’t heard,” says Sean.

Modern Space has a full summer calendar of dates, including the Festival d’été de Quebec, where they’re most excited to see their old tour mates headlining for the first time.

“I’ve never seen them headline a festival. I’m really excited to see what kind of show they put on.”

Look out for the music video for “Flip for It” launching soon (we hear it has a 007 vibe…), and catch them on tour this summer.
